ACCA has a long history of working with academic partners and we are particularly proud of the opportunities these partnerships offer our students, affiliates and members.
Earlier this year, we partnered the University of London (UoL) to launch the first ever Masters programme integrated with a professional accounting qualification – the MSc in Professional Accountancy.
We are the first professional accountancy body to partner a university to enable accountancy students across the globe, including Singapore, to study for a Masters degree at the same time as taking their professional qualification with ACCA.
Enhancing employability and employer recognition
With access to a prestigious Masters qualification as part of ACCA’s professional qualification, our members and affiliates, and new students embarking on the ACCA qualification, now have the option to extend their learning journey and undertake a reduced number of modules to achieve a Masters qualification from one of the most reputable universities in the world.
According to a 2015 report* by a leading recruitment firm, hiring activity will be at its highest level in three years. At the same time, Singapore companies are planning to increase their finance and accounting, and financial services professionals headcount as they explore new growth opportunities.
Employers in many markets hold finance and accounting professionals with both a professional and Masters qualification in high regard as they are equipped with a combination of academic and professional perspectives which will be valuable in today’s competitive business landscape.
The modules on the Master of Science (MSc) in Professional Accountancy from UoL are being developed with academic input from the University College London (UCL) that is ranked 5th in the QS World University Rankings (2014/2015).
Classes in Singapore to be delivered by SIM Global Education
What’s more? We have sweetened the deal for students in Singapore through a local collaboration with the Singapore Institute of Management – Global Education (SIM GE).
We recently signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) with SIM GE that will see both ACCA and SIM GE working towards launching the programme at SIM GE in the second half of 2016**.
With this partnership, Singapore will be one of the first markets in this region to deliver classes for this ground-breaking Master’s programme.
Significance of partnership
So, what’s the significance of this MOC that we’ve signed?
Simply put, accountancy students will now have access to classes as they simultaneously complete both the MSc in Professional Accountancy from UoL and their ACCA professional accounting qualification. They will be able to complete and attain both certifications within two years.
They will also benefit from student development initiatives to bolster employability and the provision of scholarships and prizes for outstanding students.
“Students and professionals in Singapore are constantly exploring opportunities for further education and upgrading of their skills, so an integrated route will definitely be the preferred choice. ACCA is constantly innovating in order to provide opportunities and platforms to further improve our students’ and members’ employability,” said Reuter Chua, Head of ACCA Singapore.
ACCA and UoL have designed two routes that ACCA students and members/affiliates can take to attain these certifications. This snazzy infographic has all you need to know:
A strong advocate of lifelong learning, ACCA is always exploring innovative pathways that will offer our students, affiliates and members the opportunity to complement their professional skills with other higher academic qualifications to support their career development.
