In his New Year message, Amos Ng, Chairman of the ACCA Singapore Network Panel, lets us in on some of the key events that we have planned for you this year.

Dear members,

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you into the New Year.

2015: Key milestones in a glance

As we look forward to the rest of 2016, I would like to thank my fellow network panel members, sub-committee members and the ACCA Singapore team for their invaluable support in driving many of the successful events and initiatives in 2015.

We held our second future-themed regional conferences that discussed the need for innovation driven by intrapreneurs – individuals who put entrepreneurial skills to work within their organisation, our inaugural Professional Debate where CFOs and industry experts exchanged their views on alternative financing, and our first ever Finance and Accounting Technical Conference that provided a one-stop update on important industry and technical developments.

We also launched the following initiatives to strengthen the pipeline of finance and accountancy professionals and equip them with work-relevant skills for career progression.

To extend your professional development opportunities, we partnered SIM Professional Development (SIM PD) on joint events that provide you with a platform for business networking and to keep abreast with the latest issues impacting businesses.

We also continued to engage more than 150 local, regional and international organisations under the ACCA Approved Employer programme.   These include the big four and mid-tier accounting firms, financial institutions such as Barclays Bank PLC, HSBC, Credit Suisse, UOB, and DBS Bank Ltd, and other multinational corporations across the corporate sector. We also welcomed new ACCA Approved Employers such as the Land Transport Authority, UPS Asia Group and Ardent Associates LLP, to name a few.  We will continue to build strong relationships with other leading employers in the industry.

2016:  ACCA Singapore turns 80!

2016 will be a particularly big year for ACCA Singapore as we mark our 80th anniversary in the Lion City.  Here is a sneak peek into some of the events and initiatives we have lined-up.

In June, ACCA’s first-ever ASEAN conference will explore the skills and competencies our accountants will need to seize the opportunities of the future. Our annual Members’ Appreciation Dinner will also celebrate both our 80th anniversary and the achievements of all our members, including the newest.

New professional development opportunities to extend your learning journey

To keep you at the top of your game, ACCA will provide more continuing professional development (CPD) opportunities through innovative media such as webinars that will allow you to enjoy enhanced flexibility and convenience!

In 2015, we partnered the University of London to launch the first-ever master’s programme integrated with a professional qualification – the MSc in Professional Accountancy. As an ACCA member, you will now be able to complement your professional qualification with the academic insights of a master’s degree, by completing one module and one project.  ACCA Singapore will be working with SIM Global Education (SIM GE) to launch the programme in the second half of 2016.

Enhanced opportunities for aspiring finance and accounting professionals

Our ‘borderless education’ offerings such as massive open online courses and digital, open-access courses such as ACCA-X continue to provide aspiring accountants, working professionals without a background in finance, mid-career professionals seeking a career change or anyone keen on entering the accountancy profession, with the opportunity to gain new knowledge, upskill themselves or deepen their skills in their existing fields of work.

We will also continue to partner with leading institutes of higher learning and other relevant industry players to ensure education opportunities for aspiring accounting and finance professionals. The ACCA foundation courses are currently listed on the SkillsFuture Credit Course Directory and are eligible for SkillsFuture Credit claims.

2016 and onwards

As we celebrate our 80th Anniversary, I urge you to join the ‘ACCA & Proud’ programme as Member Advocates and share stories of your ACCA journeys. There is nothing more fitting than to hear about the successes of our own members as we celebrate our long history in Singapore.

Through the support of the ACCA Singapore office and the strategic insights of my fellow members of the network panel and new sub-committees, I will strive to bring you the latest resources, events and research on the key developments impacting accountancy and the wider world.

Let’s work hand-in-hand to ensure ACCA continues to be the choice among employers across all sectors and the business community at large!
