Last week, in the first of our ‘Millions of Opportunities, One Global Qualification’ series, we learnt how the ACCA Qualification enabled Bhavani Shanmugabalan FCCA, Product Controller (Currencies and Derivatives) of the Royal Bank of Scotland and Member of the ACCA Singapore Network Panel to pursue career opportunities across the world from Singapore to London and then to the Middle East.
In addition to bringing you places, the ACCA Qualification offers you the flexibility to develop your career in a variety of organisations across industries.
Nobody knows this better than Kenneth Cheung FCCA, Regional Financial Director at Microsoft Singapore. With a stellar career spanning 25 years, Kenneth amassed valuable experience in a diverse range of senior management roles in a variety of industries that include public practice, telecommunications and technology.
Having spent the first part of his career in audit at KPMG Peat Marwick UK, he moved to KPMG Hong Kong after four years to experience what it is like to work in a different country.
He then pursued an opportunity in commerce with Motorola Asia Pacific as a Regional Financial Planning and Reporting Manager.
There, he found himself interacting with top management where he acquired an understanding of how the business worked at a macro level. It was at Motorola that he was posted around the world, first from Hong Kong, to Singapore, then Europe and Beijing.
2006 saw him return to Singapore to take up a position at Avago Technologies, a spin-off from Agilent, as Head of the Global Shared Services division.
After overcoming some challenges at Avago Technologies, he assumed the position of Deputy CFO at the then Singapore Telecommunication. A few months after he joined, the organisation restructured and he took on the additional role of Head of Risk. He subsequently embraced the position of CFO of the new Group Digital Life division and Head of SingTel finance shared services.
Seeking to improve his work-life balance, he took on his current role of Regional Finance Director with Microsoft Singapore where he says, “‘Transforming whilst performing to deliver results is always a challenge, but it is also very exciting and provides a great opportunity to learn. Keeping up with the pace of change and innovation is the norm in the technology space.’
