ACCA Singapore celebrated its 80th Anniversary with a grand dinner following the ACCA ASEAN Conference, at Suntec City on 17 June 2016.
The celebratory dinner was attended by over 400 guests including special appearances by the ACCA Global Council members, the ACCA Executive Team, guests from the ASEAN Federation of Accountants (AFA), as well as ACCA’s approved employers and other stakeholders.
The British High Commissioner, His Excellency Scott Wightman, graced the event as the Guest of Honour.
Over 150 members were honoured during the evening across five different categories:
- New Members

For the first time, we gave accolades on Employer Partner appreciation to three outstanding Approved Employers who have actively participated in ACCA’s key initiatives and consistently partnered with us over the past two years to develop the talent pipeline, and the accounting profession as a whole.

The order of the evening started with an exciting LED light performance, followed by a congratulatory video with well-wishes to ACCA by our industry partners such as Singapore Accountancy Commission (SAC), Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (ISCA) and Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA).
ACCA pioneering member, Mr Don Ho, walked the members through a brief history of ACCA Singapore, recounting the early days where members lobbied hard for a Singapore office to be established in the late nineties.
ACCA’s Director of New Ventures, Mr Reza Ali, shared about his proud journey qualifying to be a member. Incidentally, Reza was also recognised as a new FCCA member at this event together with the other awardees. He also spoke about ACCA-X that his team had developed and his hopes and vision for ACCA Singapore 80 years and beyond.
The evening also recognised the Kew family for submitting the best entry in the “Generations of ACCA” contest which showcased members who had helped nurtured the next generation of ACCA members from within their own families. Mr and Mrs Rowland Kew are both proud members whereas their son, Kew Dek Kai, just became an affiliate member. New members and FCCAs as well as long-serving members for 10, 25 or 35 years were duly recognised at this event.
To close off the event, a special toast to ACCA Singapore was in order. True to ACCA’s core of being an international body, 5 global council members volunteered to lead the toast in their own native ways to ACCA’s values of Opportunity, Diversity, Innovation, Integrity and Accountability. Special thanks to Kenneth Henry (Jamaican), Japheth Katto (Ugandan), Laura Perrin (Romanian and French), Brendan Sheehan and Ronnie Patton (both Irish) for doing us this great honour!
And if that was not enough, the event also concluded with a final toast done the uniquely Singaporean way – a loud and sustained “Yam Seng!” to the popping of confetti to wish ACCA Singapore on its 80th Birthday.
