Last week, Singapore held its first ever Accountancy Education Symposium; organised by the Singapore Accountancy Commission and supported by ACCA as a Gold Sponsor.
The Symposium saw the gathering of educators and administrators from a large mix of schools, colleges and universities across both public and private sectors. For us at ACCA this was a very meaningful event as many of our education stakeholders and long-time partners were present.
Over the day, ACCA fielded 2 speakers. Reza Ali, ACCA’s Director of New Ventures, spoke about Bringing Accountancy and Financial Literacy to the World, showcasing how ACCA has led the charge in digital learning for accountancy with ACCA-X. His sharing on how ACCA-X has provided access and opportunity to so many around the world struck a powerful chord with the audience.
Dr Mary Bishop, ACCA’s Director of Learning, participated in the panel discussion on Accountancy Pedagogy, presenting her views on how accountancy should be taught. Mary’s arguments spoke about the need to be forward-looking and holistic when it comes to accountancy education, referencing our latest research on Professional accountants – the future.
In all, the Symposium was a wonderful platform for ACCA to continually contribute to accountancy education in Singapore. The many discussions across the day highlighted ACCA’s commitment to public value and our belief in giving back to the community.
