Interested to know how artificial intelligence, robotics and new disruptive technology are challenging white-collar professions that previously seemed invulnerable?
And, if you are working in a shared services environment or runs a shared services finance team, have you wondered how these will impact what you do?
At the end of 2015, Dell Services announced a Robotic Process Automation or RPA solution which they described as an ‘Automated Full-Time Equivalent’ or an AFTE.
AFTEs are software agents or “robots” that are programmed to perform repeatable, rules-based tasks in business processes. Unlike standard IT automation, these robots can be taught to do specific tasks faster and more accurately, on a piecemeal and flexible basis.
RPA is being heralded as the next big technological revolution that will extract cost out of businesses and free up employees to do higher-value work.
Over half of shared service leaders, who were surveyed for the Deloitte report on the use of robotics in finance in 2015, anticipate an increase in the use of financial robotics by 2017. We may see ourselves, in a sense, ‘outsourcing’ more and more of our work to these ‘software’ robots.
The cost of an AFTE is estimated to be one-fifth of an onshore employee and one-third of an offshore employee. Since an AFTE may work round the clock, it may do double or more in terms of the volume of work it accomplishes.
Sounds interesting already?
