With much happening in the world today, from Brexit to Trump’s presidency, business leaders are beginning to look into the views of economists to help steer their strategy for the year ahead. There is no better time to do so than at the start of a new year.
It was a time for celebrating partnerships and forging new relationships as over 100 Approved Employers and friends join us and Chief Investment Strategist of Standard Chartered Bank, Steve Brice at our annual luncheon as he shared his views on the economic outlook for 2017.
“2017 is the year of the #pivot?” quotes Steve and this means “keeping one foot firmly grounded while you make the shift in a new direction”. How great the pivot is will then determine the degree of uncertainty that surrounds the economy.
Steve identified four pivots to note and they are:
- Movement from monetary to fiscal evident from the US taking the lead in boosting fiscal policies
- Movement from deflation to inflation
- Movement from globalisation to protectionism
- Shift from Pax Americana to multi-polarity where there is potential Asian pivot away from the US towards China
These are elaborated further in Steve Brice’s presentation which can be downloaded here.
