Robotic process automation and artificial intelligence have been said to bring about disruption to all areas of businesses,  evidently in recent years on the customer facing front.

However, the transformation on how we deliver our business, will also impact finance leaders as they will need to process information faster, crunch data more efficiently to generate insights into bringing the business well into the future.

From Brian McEnery, ACCA president

It’s almost a year since we announced our strategic alliance with Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ). It’s been an exciting 12 months and I’ve been really pleased with the benefits and value the alliance has created. To see members meeting and sharing insights at events across the Asia Pacific region and in the UK has really brought home to me the importance of what we are trying to achieve.

I’ve recently returned from a summit meeting in Singapore with the president of CA ANZ, along with other senior member representatives and key employees, where we assessed progress and explored opportunities to further deepen the relationship.

The alliance has increased the profile of both designations worldwide, through joint research such as the G20 public trust in tax report we co-produced which looked at people’s views on taxation across G20 nations. The work, which we also carried out with the International Federation of Accountants, made headlines across the world.

We’ve also increased the range of CPD resources available to members globally by sharing learning opportunities, covering a wide range of topics which have been delivered in both online and face-to-face formats.

Going forward we want to further strengthen the way we work together and have agreed we will co-locate a small number of employee teams in London, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong. This important step will see teams developing combined strategies that will benefit members and business, and will help them create more joint member events.

At the meeting, we also reiterated the purpose of the alliance, which is to:
• increase the profile of both brands worldwide
• enhance support to members and wider stakeholders
• contribute to the development of the profession and business world
• demonstrate the strength of a progressive alliance across the accounting sector.

I look forward to reporting on further progress. In the meantime, you can find more information about the CPD opportunities and access our special joint publication Reach, highlighting key challenges facing accountants across the world, at

The biggest adventure for the ACCA Singapore team at the start of this year was a move from our home in Orchard to the financial hub of the island –Raffles Place, closer to some of our members and partners.

ACCA international office in Singapore was officially opened on 3rd May, by His Excellency, Mr Scott Wightman British High Commissioner to Singapore in the presence of over 50 guests from the Singapore Accountancy Commission (SAC), the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants, Institute of Internal Auditors, the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC), approved employers, education institutions and approved learning providers.

We had Helen Brand, our Chief Executive of ACCA; Chaly Mah, Chairman of SAC; Belinda Young, ACCA Council Member and Amos Ng, Chairman of the ACCA Singapore Network Panel joined His Excellency in commemorating the occasion by signing off on a blockchain – timestamping it permanently.

The new office aims to drive innovation in the accountancy sectors in Singapore, Asia Pacific and Emerging Markets such as Indonesia, Philippines, Myanmar, India, Russia and Latin America.

“I am immensely proud of the contribution ACCA members have consistently made over the past eight decades to cement the reputation of Singapore as a global financial centre. It’s wonderful for ACCA to be at the very heart of this amazing city and in this fantastic space” says Helen in her welcome address. We could not agree more!

A collective of young ACCA members (our energetic Generation Next leaders) took time to sit down with Helen and Belinda to share their plans about member-for-member initiatives and what aspirations they have for ACCA for the year. The session was very well received and we will keep you posted on the next development from our young ACCA members!

We hope that in our new home we can acknowledge and appreciate our rich 81 year history being here in Singapore, while also looking to our future vision. We will be here to support creating a future for our partners and members whom we serve.
